Message from the Superintendent-April 7, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope all is well with you and your families and that everyone is healthy.  Today’s letter is intended to be informative in nature as well as provide me with an opportunity to publically thank different groups of people.  

 

School Closure:

 

  • Thank you to our Fabulous School Board for always having our students’ best interest front and center in every decision that they make.  Please trust that during this time, they have had to make and will continue to have to make hard decisions. But know, that they put forth many hours meeting and staying informed so that they can make the best decisions for our students. 
  • The Idaho State Board of Education met yesterday and unanimously moved “to extend the soft closure to the end of each school districts’ and charter schools 2019-2020 academic school year or until such time as local and state social distancing orders have been lifted and re-entry criteria established by the Board have been met.”
  • So, what does this mean?  This means that the State Board of Education has approved for physical buildings to remain closed to students for the remainder of our school year OR until the “Stay at Home Order” has been lifted AND re-entry criteria has been established and met.  
  • This means our local School Board will be keeping informed of this matter and will be taking this into consideration.  We will communicate out any and all information as we get it.
  • Does this mean school is cancelled for our students?  NO, students throughout the country will continue to receive instruction however it just looks different than we have been use to.   
  • So, to be clear our teachers will continue to educate our students and our students are expected to continue to receive and do their instruction for the remainder of the school year whether or not we are allowed back in the buildings or not.

 

 

Breakfast and Lunch Distributions:

 

  • As always, kudos to our Child Nutrition staff and Transportation staff.  
  • On Monday, April 6th, 2020, we were able to serve 99 children between the ages of 1 and 18.
  • On Tuesday, April 7th, 2020, we prepared 106 breakfasts and lunches for children between the ages of 1 and 18.
  • Please continue to contact Jay for your Food Service needs (208-520-8099) and Michael for your Transportation (delivery) needs (530-632-9455).  

 

 

Instruction and Delivery: 

 

  • Shout out to our Amazing Curriculum Director; Teachers; Staff; Technology Department, and Transportation staff for being so flexible and working so hard to find a solution that fits our students’ needs of Instruction during this time!  
  • Our first official day of Instruction started up again April 6, 2020.
  • For the most part we had just some minor bumps to work through.
  • The first delivery of packets were distributed yesterday, April 6, 2020.  You should have received 2 weeks of instruction.  
  • Should your child not have received any instruction yet, please do not hesitate to contact us at:  ccsd161@mudlake.net and we will reach out to you personally to work through this.
  • There will be a delivery of Instruction again on Monday, April 13th for those students who might have only received one week of instruction.  (If you are unsure if this is you…ask your teacher if you should be expecting a delivery of Instruction for the week of April 13th.  
  • After this point, please expect 2 weeks worth of Instruction to be delivered every other week.  For example Instruction for the Weeks of April 20th-30th will be delivered on the 20th.
  • Please make sure that you are constantly checking your teachers website found on our District webpage under teacher and then their name.  This will provide you with their contact number and specific guidance on Instruction.
  • Your teacher will be giving you specific instructions on how to turn in your homework.  
  • But, as always if you have a question…contact your teacher, we are here to help you!

 

 

Reading Materials/Resources:

 

  • A special thank you in advance to our City Public Library, Curriculum Director; Special Ed Director, and our Technology Department for providing our students and parents with these resources
  • We will be creating a resource section on our website soon for additional curriculum ideas.
  • Also, we will be posting directions to our website as to how our students can get reading materials on line, so please be looking for that in the next day or two.

 

 

Playground:

 

  • Thanks to our Maintenance Director for a Fantastic job insuring that our community children are safe by closing off our playgrounds.
  • In an attempt to help do our part to control the spread of COVID-19 and maintain our social distancing as well as to help our students and community members stay healthy, the school has closed off our Lindy Ross playgrounds.  Additionally, the City has also closed off the City Park at this time.  
  • Parents, please help us with this by visiting with your child about not entering the fenced off areas until further notice.  
  • We appreciate your help with this as always!

 

 

Communication:

 

  • We miss our students and we are committed to reaching out to our students at least twice a week by phone!
  • Students please make sure you are all making yourself available to have personal phone conversations with your teachers during your scheduled times.
  • Parents, please do not hesitate to contact your teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
  • Other forms of communication might include:  Zoom Meetings; Face Book Groups; Mail; text alerts, etc.  So please keep in contact with us.
  • I will be starting a Q & A Zoom Meeting soon to try to help answer any questions or concerns you may have.  Please look for upcoming information on our web page.
  • Additionally, in the near future, I will be creating a Zoom Meeting for Elementary students called “Reading with the Sup.”  Again, please look for upcoming information on our web page.
  • Finally, in the near future, I will be creating a Daily Challenge for our students, faculty, staff, and community so be looking for more information on our web page.

 

 

Miscellaneous Thoughts:

 

  • Our teachers have been busy cleaning out the contents of our students’ desks and lockers.  Please expect deliveries of personal possessions throughout the next several days via our buses.  Our Junior High and High School Locker Rooms will be cleaned out in the coming days.
  • Thank you to the BEST cleaning staff EVER for all their hard work keeping our teachers and staff healthy through their thorough cleanings and disinfecting procedures.
  • Thank you to our team of Translators for the many hours of translating all of my communications.  You all are amazing.

 

Last but definitely not least, thank you to ALL our students and parents for being so flexible and supportive in this very trying time for all of us.  Our community of staff, parents, students, and community members have been shining examples of what our mission stands for.
